The last day of school used to mark (second to my birthday, obviously) my favourite day of the year.

It consistently fell on a humid mid-June day. On this very day, with all the shrill ring of the final termination bell, my
daily regime of studies would dissolve as a Popsicle on hot pavement.
The expanse of summer recipes stretched itself out in front of younger.
She beckoned to younger with assurances of suntans, starry nights, bare feet, lazy
mornings, and, if I was not unlucky, summer loves.
